The purpose of this ceremony is to ask protection from Hyang Pertiwi and Hyang Akasa for a safe and long life baby. Placenta is washed clean, wrapped in white cloth, filled with spices, then put into the coconut before being buried. A stone is placed on top, with a flat surface facing up. Pandanus tree is planted adjacent and baleman (fire embers) is placed next to it.
The placenta (tembuni) is the symbol of the corpse, while the coconut symbol of the “lotus”. Baleman is symbolic of a body burner. The length of making baleman is 42 days. If it is not carried out properly, the purpose of burning the corpse will not succeed.
